DRAG SCENE
2009 DIVA RAFFLE
The DIVA awards will be held in August this year. Over the Mardi Gras period and through to 29 March, DIVA will be undertaking a raffle to raise funds to assist with the production of the 2009 DIVA awards. Raffle tickets are $5 each, which will give you the chance to win a brand new Vespa LX125 (valued at just under $7,000, inclusive of on-road costs). Buying a ticket in the raffle is an important way you can support DIVA to ensure we continue to deliver a first-class Drag awards ceremony. A gaggle of well-heeled Baby Drags has been martialled to act of the DIVA Raffle sales-force. So, if a smiling Baby Drag approaches you to buy a ticket, smile and take 2!
If you would like to help us in our fund raising efforts by undertaking to sell a book (or 2) of raffle tickets, or you would simply like to know how to buy some raffle tickets, please contact us at info@divaawards.com.au
SPECIAL EVENTS: MARDI GRAS DRAGATHON
Screen sirens Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell had it all! They were glamorous, could belt out a tune and diamonds were their best friend. Fame, fortune and scores of suitors were inevitable. In the parallel universe of today the girls are still glamorous belters with a penchant for diamonds, but with one not-so-little difference: these two little girls from little rock are two little boys from Darlinghurst. Gentlemen Prefer Blokes stars the percipient comic and self-confessed Show queen, Trevor Ashley, and the ever-effervescent blonde bombshell, Courtney "Double Diamond Black Run" Act. This wickedly clever show plays at the Civic Hotel Underground from 26 Feb - 6 Mar. For tickets, go to Ticketek.com.au. Crutches optional!
Big Bingay at the Beach at the Paddo Town Hall on Friday, 27 February at 7.30pm (sharp, apparently) is bound to be a scorcher! Your numbers will be pulled by the sun-drenched (and kissed) Mitzi Macintosh, supported by the Pamela Anderson of Bingay bitches, Naomi, with all proceeds going to acon. For details, call David on +61 2 9206 2110 or go to events2009@acon.org.au
Joyce Mayngewill be joining a superb international line-up at the very hip Mardi Gras Late Night Lounge in The Studio at Sydney Opera House. This will be a delicious way to wrap up your evening, featuring the superb musical talents of New York's Lance Horne and host/MC, Kiki & Herb's Justin Bond and feline femme fatale Meow Meow, who will be introducing special surprise international guests, cabaret cameos, chatty catty gossip and salacious stories and songs. Joyce will join Julie Atlas and Zoe Keating on Saturday, 28 February from 10pm. Special DIVA Showgirls Offer Adults at Concession Prices ($25 instead of $35) for either night by phoning 9250 7777 and quoting "Showgirls Late Night Lounge Offer"
